Organization: Hands for Homeless
D.O. More Far Rockaway was founded by local medical students at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Campus. This chapter now includes medical and pre-medical students who have paired with Hands for Homeless (HFH) shelter. HFH provides NYC families experiencing homelessness with more than just a place to sleep. On any given day nearly 610 families with children ages 0 to 18 reside in safe, clean, shelters–our family residences–with a host of services designed to make the most of their time in shelter. Many HFH programs are also available to neighbors in the communities near our family residences.
D.O. More Far Rockaway's goal was to raise $1,200 to donate Blessings in a Bags containing essential items such as: throw blankets, lotion, socks, shampoo/conditioner, soap bars, toothbrushes/toothpaste, hand sanitizer, deodorant, Kleenex boxes, tampons, microfiber towels and much more! Together with the city of Far Rockaway, they almost tripled their goal and raised $3,016! Along with the 150 Blessings in a Bags made, they also sent 50 kids on a field trip in addition to sending school supplies! We look forward to working with the city of Far Rockaway in the near future!
