Organization: Transplant House of Cleveland​

D.O. More Cleveland was founded by local medical students who partnered with Transplant House of Cleveland, a home away from home dedicated to providing affordable temporary housing and a welcoming, supportive community to organ transplant patients and their families. Blessings in a bag were assembled that included items such as: notebooks, pens, granola bars, trail mix, water bottles, coloring books, colored pencils, crayons, activity books, fidget spinners, masks, ear plugs, headphones, sewing kits, stuffed animals, and more!

"Only 4% of U.S. medical centers have organ transplant programs. Therefore, most who require a transplant as treatment for end-stage organ disease will have to travel away from home to receive that care. The effect of this kind of travel on families is profoundly complicated, both emotionally and logistically, and financially burdensome.  The length of time away from home (and family, work, care of a house, and all familiar forms of support) can range from 10 days to 9 months, very commonly.  For some, the time away from home can be a year or longer."

Together with D.O. More and the city of Cleveland, we raised $2,050 and put together 100 welcome bags to children awaiting donor transplants. We are incredibly proud of our D.O. More Cleveland team and look forward to working with Transplant Center of Cleveland in the near future!
