D.O. MORE GAINESVILLE
Organizations: Partnered with Project Downtown (PD) Gainesville and Grace Marketplace
D.O. More Gainesville was founded by local and LECOM medical students who wanted to give back to their alma mater city. PD Gainesville is a local FL nonprofit that serves warm meals to the homeless and underserved every weekend. They also hold events to raise funds for monetary and itemized donations, similar to D.O. More! Grace Marketplace is a low-barrier shelter that eliminates the requirements for entry that keep people from getting the help they need. They don't require ID, a perfect background, income, sobriety, or participation in services that aren't related to housing. Instead, these issues become the first things they focus on when someone enters the shelter. Local residents are prioritized for beds, but at the end of the day, anyone can get the help they need, when and how they need.
In just a few short days, D.O. More and their team raised $1,300 and put together 140 hygiene kits along with 180 warm lunches for Grace Marketplace clients! A huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped our teams reach this goal. We look forward to relaunching our Gainesville chapter in the future and are looking for new members to participate in this event!
